Professional development has always been an important strand of Sampad’s work. By empowering people to strengthen their creative skills, we are helping to fuel the sector as a whole, so that it can progress and continue to move forward.

We have strong relationships with partner organisations in the UK, Europe and beyond and this enables us to offer some excellent training, skills development and placement opportunities, in a variety of interesting settings.

Projects & Programme Co-ordinator

Contract: Full time, permanent position 
Salary: £25,295 – £27,905  
Hours: Full-time (37.5 hours per week) 
Location: Initially based at home due to Covid-19 but long term based at Sampad offices, Midlands Arts Centre. This is a changing situation so we do not yet know when our offices will reopen.

We are seeking a passionate and experienced individual to join our team. You will be a proactive self-starter with excellent administration skills, eager to play a key part in our ambitious plans for the future. We are looking for someone with experience of programme and/or project management and an interest in diverse arts.

An important role in this small team, you will be responsible for supporting the Director and the Executive Director (SMT) in planning and managing our arts, heritage and learning programmes, and in developing and maintaining partnerships that are key to Sampad’s future success. Trainee Assistant Producer 

Contract: Part Time (4 days per week), Temporary fixed term contract for 6 months
Salary: £18,525 pro rata. This will be £7410.00 for 4 days per week for 6 months. This salary is based on the Living Wage of £9.50 per hour. No overtime is paid but Sampad operate a Time Off In Lieu system

We are seeking a dedicated self-starter who is keen to develop their skills and experience through this 6 month position, in order to develop their career in the arts. You will be working on the following two Sampad flagship projects. Full details can be found in the Job Description below.

  • City of Empire to City of Diversity: A Visual Journey
    Funded by The National Lottery Heritage Fund, this project will document and catalogue some 10,000 items held in the Birmingham Archives from the Ernest Dyche studios. The project will result in exhibitions with an associated learning and engagement programme. The Trainee Assistant Producer will assist the Learning & Community Engagement Manager in implementing the outreach programme in particular focussing on work with young people. During the course of their internship they will work with the project Co-curators, artists, the Community Archivist and volunteers and will liaise with the project partners Library of Birmingham and Birmingham Archives.

  • BEDLAM 2021
    BEDLAM is a major arts and mental health festival that takes place bi-annually and is led by Birmingham & Solihull Mental Health Foundation Trust. Sampad is one of the partners together with The Birmingham Rep, Midlands Arts Centre and guest partner Red Earth Collective for 2021. The Trainee Assistant Producer will support the research & production of a new work which explores experiences of ill mental health as a result of Covid-19 in South Asian communities.

    This internship will give you the grounding of hands on experience, being given responsibility to lead, support and training from a variety of professionals and seeing a project through to delivery. The position will give you real experience of: partnership working, working with young people, working with communities, working on projects designed to meet set outcomes.

    BEDLAM 2021 is subject to funding. If for any reason this project does not go ahead this year, Sampad has a full programme of work planned and an alternative project will be assigned for the Trainee Assistant Producer.

This position is funded by Birmingham City Council’s 2020-21 Cultural Diversity Arts Activities Commissioning. The 2020-21 Cultural Diversity commissioning focuses on addressing the underrepresentation of ethnic minorities in the arts workforce and in arts audiences by engaging local arts practitioners (artists, arts leaders and creative producers) aged 18+, who are seeking progression routes into arts and cultural leadership.

In line with the funding criteria, this opportunity is specifically targeted towards Birmingham resident ethnic minority individuals aged 18+, who are seeking progression routes into arts and cultural leadership.
