Freelance Exhibitions Assistant
From City of Empire to City of Diversity: A Visual Journey
Sampad, in partnership with Birmingham Archives and the University of Birmingham, has been awarded a grant by the National Lottery Heritage Fund to deliver a new project which explores Commonwealth Migration to Birmingham through a collection of photographs taken in a photography Studio in Balsall Heath. The project will see 10,000 photographs from Ernest Dyche’s photography studio be ordered and indexed so that they will be available and accessible for viewing in Birmingham Archives, based at the Library of Birmingham, and includes the delivery of an engagement programme coinciding with the Commonwealth Games 2022.
Our project encompasses a main exhibition to be staged in the Library of Birmingham as well as a touring version of the main exhibition, a community and schools engagement programme, events and talks.
We are now seeking a Freelance Exhibitions Assistant with knowledge and experience of developing exhibitions in the cultural field.
Being guided by the content of the main exhibition in the Library of Birmingham (to be developed by the Co-curators, with input from the Learning and Community Engagement Outreach Manager), the Exhibition Assistant role will focus on the production and delivery requirements of the From City of Empire to City of Diversity: A Visual Journey touring exhibitions for the community venues and schools, working in collaboration with 5 volunteer co-curators. The Exhibition Assistant will also assist with engagement activities as guided by the Learning and Community Engagement Manager.
