Fight The Fairytale

For International Women’s Day 2021, we were thrilled to partner with No Ordinary Experience on the project #FtheFairytales – a digital participatory takeover with young people, in support of oppressed females everywhere.

Stories just love locking up our women. And it seems we do, too. But enough is enough. On International Women’s Day (Monday 8 March 2021) we joined a family of women, girls, those identifying as female, and non-binary people to explore memories of fairytale and mythical characters who were locked up in their narratives, and how this resonates with the same issue for women today.

We invited young people aged 12 – 15 to take part in two free digital workshops via Zoom, in order to create the materials for the #FtheFairytales Campaign – an online protest in support of all those who feel, or are, locked up. The first workshop explored the connection between the participants’ own experiences and those of the characters facing similar challenges in fairytales. The second workshop explored current campaigns, and fun ways that the participants could make their final pieces of artwork and selfies stand out.

The project saw some incredible artwork created by our passionate and innovative participants. Their artwork was shared across our social media channels throughout the day on International Women’s Day. See the posts on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
