Bangladesh @ 50: Celebrating Together

Sampad and MAC present a family day filled with music, dance, stories, food, craft sessions, and discussion events in association with Purbanat, Gronthee, and Radharaman Society

We welcome people from all walks of life to join us for this community day in celebration of Bangladesh’s rich cultural heritage, to mark the 50th anniversary year of its independence.

Free, Celebrating Together family day 1.30pm to 5pm

With various events throughout the day, there really is something for everyone. Highlights include:

Family and Children Show – 1.30pm – 2.30pm | MAC Terrace | Free, drop in
This engaging show for families and children is sure to get you in the celebratory mood! With music and dance sets for you to join in with, this show also offers exciting stories and ornate costumes.

And if that weren’t enough, you can also join Sameerah & Ruhana in the craft corner to make art to take home.

Exhibition – 1.30pm to 6.30pm  | Garden Studio | Free, drop in
Look at an exhibition of paintings, photography and textiles. Featured artists include Hanna Ihsan whose paintings are inspired by nature and architecture, and ‘Tagore in the light of Rembrandt’ by the award-winning photographer Pablo Khaled

Food Stall with Special Menu – 1pm to 6.30pm  | MAC Terrace
Enjoy the special menu for the day.

Chai & Chat & Poetry – 3pm to 5pm | Foyle Studio | Free, limited capacity, booking required
Join us for an insightful session of poetry, dance, and discussion. In today’s Chai & Chat & Poetry, you’ll hear readings from our upcoming My City My Home publication, read by the authors themselves, and poetry read by Gronthee Poets members.

For a moment of reflection, Showmi Das will perform a short dance set, and Tanvir Ahmed will be showing an excerpt from his documentary film ‘Recognise Bangladesh’. The session will close with a panel discussion between Tanvir and Dharmesh Rajput, with questions from the audience encouraged!

To close the day with a bang – A Variety Showcase performed live in MAC’s beautiful outdoor arena! Suitable for families.

With music, dance, and even a presentation of traditional Biyer Geet wedding traditions, there’s something for everyone to enjoy in this showcase of Bangladesh’s exciting cultural offerings.

There will not be an interval during this performance, so please come and go as you please during moments of applause or set changes. Please avoid moving around the space while performances are going on.
