Since December 2020, we have been working with Coventry UK City of Culture 2021 on our new project Abundance, to uncover the hidden talent in Coventry and Warwickshire’s South Asian communities.
We began by launching a call-out for 10 individuals of South Asian heritage based in Coventry and Warwickshire (with a CV postcode). We wanted to hear from creatives of all kinds, at all stages of their career. From poets to costume makers, DJs to dancers, singers to outdoor artists, all were welcome to apply, whether they were already established, mid-career or just starting out. Read more here.
Abundance has been created by this collaborative community of artists and is a journey across the North of Coventry, in a celebration of light, hope, freedom.
The artists are responding to four themes: City of Light – the city lights up with lamps, lanterns; City of Sounds – creating a soundscape across the city; City of Love and Freedom – play, family; and City of Hope – Capturing the female voice, female stories of the city, and our unity and togetherness.
It will take place across the length of one of Coventry’s most historic roads, the Foleshill Road, and weave its way in a circular route through the residential streets of the area.
