Since December 2020, we have been working with Coventry UK City of Culture 2021 on our new project Abundance, to uncover the hidden talent in Coventry and Warwickshire’s South Asian communities.

We began by launching a call-out for 10 individuals of South Asian heritage based in Coventry and Warwickshire (with a CV postcode). We wanted to hear from creatives of all kinds, at all stages of their career. From poets to costume makers, DJs to dancers, singers to outdoor artists, all were welcome to apply, whether they were already established, mid-career or just starting out.  Read more here.

Abundance has been created by this collaborative community of artists and is a journey across the North of Coventry, in a celebration of light, hope, freedom.

Experience a spectacular procession across the north of Coventry. Abundance is a free, family-friendly event celebrating light, hope and freedom.

Beginning and ending at the Indian Community Centre on Cross Road, the circular route will weave through residential streets and traverse one of Coventry’s most historic roads, the Foleshill Road.

Following the incredible Carnival of Lights in 2019, the streets will once again light up for an evening of light, performance and spectacle.

Come and watch the procession from the pavement at any point along the route, and enjoy an array of exciting performances including:

  • Dance routines choreographed by Kesha Raithatha (Associate Artistic Director, Aakash Odedra)
  • Fire walkabout show by Flame Oz
  • Walkabout performance by Kitsch & Sync
  • Coventry-based female drummers
  • Coventry based international dhol drummer Parv Kaur with Eternal Taal
  • Community-led lantern parade led by Coventry South Asian artists
  • Light-up umbrellas with Cirque Bijou
  • Light projection at St Paul’s Church
  • …and much more!
