Journeys writing competition

Our latest international writing competition, Journeys, received over 400 entries from around the world.

Aspiring writers from or connected to the South Asian diaspora were invited to write in any style – short story, poetry, reportage – using the theme of Journeys as a starting point.

We had lots of quality entries from across the UK, from Yorkshire to Devon, and from arond the globe – India, Singapore, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, USA and Australia to name just a few.

The judges are in the process of selecting the winning entries which will be published in an anthology. We will contact all those with successful entries by the end of May.

As we have had such a high number of entries, it will not be possible for us to contact anyone whose work has not been selected for our publication.

There will be a special prize of £200 awarded to the best writer aged 8 – 15, and £300 for the best writer aged 16 and over.

The Journeys book will be launched in October 2010.

I have sent a story titled 'First Flight' on 13th January. I have also received acknowledgement for it. The link that I had received said the deadline was 31st Dec. 2009, however your website said the last date was 31st Jan. 2010. Just wanted to make sure if my story is being considered.

Thanks,

Chetan

Hi Lorna

I am delighted to have been selected as one of the winners in the over-16 category for my story "The Homecoming". However, in the list I would appreciate if you could please correct my location to read only Bangladesh, as I was travelling in Europe at the time and hence provided an additional contact address.

I am in fact a Bangladeshi national. Many thanks!
