Encee Arts presents: Autistic is Artistic (Kathak Collective 2012)

Kathak Collective return to the stage of Encee Academy of Performing Arts once again on 1st April, taking a different direction as they explore a new kathak stanza.

This year, to mark National Autism Awareness Day, their show will focus on raising awareness of autism and the work done by the National Autistic Society (NAS).

Using the versatile dance form of Kathak – an age old Indian classical dance form which weaves together intricate hand gestures and facial expressions, with rapid spins and rhythmic footwork – the group will explore the complexities and characteristics of autism as well as examining social boundaries and behaviours.

Kathak Collective is an initiative that started in 2006, aimed at presenting talented, upcoming dancers and collaborations with external institutions.

The dance group performing on the evening consists of 10 young, dynamic and spirited dancers who have all trained in Kathak for over 12 years under renowned Kathak dancer, Gauri Sharma Tripathi. Their journey has been supported by Encee Arts, a dance academy based at the Patidar House in the heart of Wembley.

With the suppport of the National Autistic Society, all proceeds raised will go towards much needed resources for the Sybil Elgar School, a specialist school for children and young people with autism.
