Inspired by Tagore

Inspired by Tagore

In 2011, as part of its celebrations to mark the 150th anniversary of the birth of Rabindranath Tagore, sampad launched an international writing competition called Inspired by Tagore.

Tagore was a hugely influential South Asian poet and many sampad projects have celebrated his legacy or been sparked by a line of his poetry.

We were absolutely overwhelmed by the fantastic response to the competition: we had a huge number of entries – over 1700 from 37 countries!

Our partners in the competition, the British Council in India, held special events in three Indian cities in May 2012, to celebrate Tagore’s 150th birthday anniversary and to announce the 2 overall prize winners for the competition.

The special commemorative book which was also launched at the May events is now available in the UK.
