The buildings will be brought to life with stunning digital projections and visual effects triggered by the live dance, music and audience interaction.

MANDALA (Sanskrit for ‘circle’) will unite exciting British Asian dancers Aakash Odedra and Devika Rao with BBOY’S ATTIC and a company of artists, merging the beautiful forms of classical Asian dance with edgy, urban attitude.

With a powerful soundtrack, featuring the music of world-class artists Anoushka Shankar and Zakir Hussain, and a special live appearance by multi award-winning tabla artist, Talvin Singh, MANDALA will be the free outdoor multimedia spectacle not to miss!

MANDALA is a bold, new collaboration between sampad South Asian arts and leading arts & technology company, seeper.

The production is directed by Kully Thiarai, with choreography by Aakash Odedra and artistic direction by Piali Ray.

Special performance by Red Baraat at Mandala in Birmingham

7 September 2012
Town Hall, Birmingham, Chamberlain Square
Performance starts at 6.30pm

FREE OUTDOOR EVENT PRESENTED BY TOWN HALL BIRMINGHAM

The seriously hot, larger-than-life, Brooklyn based dhol ‘n’ brass band Red Baraat will be flying in from New York City to start Mandala in Birmingham with a swing!

The nine piece band led by dhol drummer Sunny Jain consists of dhol, drums, percussion, a sousaphone and a five piece horn section. The band fuse the infectious North Indian rhythms of bhangra with funk, jazz, Latin and go-go and their sound is big, brassy and full of energy.

Dig out your dancing shoes and hotfoot it down to Chamberlain Square!

Mandala and the Red Baraat tour are part of the London 2012 Festival, the spectacular 12-week nationwide celebration running from 21 June until 9 September 2012 bringing together leading artists from across the world with the very best from the UK.

Mandala also marks the beginning of ArtsFest in Birmingham and the opening weekend for the World Event for Young Artists in Nottingham, part of MelaFest 2012

I have attended other performances at your venue and am very happy with your help and support you give..
I am a secretary at UKAWC and am interested in bringing our
Over 60's & 70's year old ladies to watch the performance.
I will have to check with the chair first before booking.
If we did deside to come, will it be possible to book the front row for them?
Thanks
Best Regards

Hello Balbir, thanks for getting in touch and for your kind comments. Just to clarify that Mandala is a free outdoor performance which is taking place in Chamberlain Square, therefore there is no seating and no requirement for tickets. You are very welcome to bring your group of ladies - there will be a reserved disabled area if there are any wheelchair users - but there is no seating other than the steps in Chamberlain Square. This performance itself last 30 minutes so I hope you can still all make it. Please email info@sampad.org.uk or call 0121 446 3260 if you would like any further information or advice on attending. Many thanks
