One of the world’s great film composers, and affectionately known in India as Pancham Da, R D Burman was among the biggest names in Bollywood music, writing music for hundreds of films spanning five decades. Nearly 20 years after his death, his music still finds its way into soundtracks from Monsoon Wedding to West is West and has been remixed and reworked by musicans from all backgrounds. To this day his innovative music tingles the taste buds of Bollywood lovers and draws in new fans from far and wide.

Supported by well-known British Asian artists, CBSO pays tribute to this Bollywood legend with songs made famous by Asha Bhosle such as Piya tu Abja and the hedonist’s anthem Dum Maroo Dum, Tumne Mujhe Dekha by Mohammad Rafi, the psychedelically-flavoured O Hanisini by Kishore Kumar, and from award-winning films such as Hum Kisi se Kum Nahin, The Burning Train and 1942: A Love Story.
